What this site is built from, what we deliberately do not copy, and what would need a licence.
The short version
- Every question and explanation here is written by us.
- We do not reproduce the official DVSA revision question bank.
- We do not host DVSA hazard-perception clips.
- Sign artwork is drawn by us to the prescribed shapes and colours.
- Official facts are restated and dated, with a link to the official page.
Sources we work from
Where sources disagree, the lower tier number wins. The full rule is set out in our editorial policy.
Tier 1: GOV.UK — theory test guidance
DVSA (GOV.UK)
What we use it for. Authoritative source for the test format, pass marks, duration, booking, fees, identification requirements, accessibility arrangements and results.
How we handle it. Facts are restated in our own words with the date we last checked them, and every page links back to the official service.
Tier 2: The Highway Code
Department for Transport / DVSA (GOV.UK)
What we use it for. Primary source for rules, the distinction between "MUST" (a legal requirement) and "should" (advice), the hierarchy of road users, and correct procedure at junctions, crossings and roundabouts.
How we handle it. Quoted only in short attributed extracts where the exact wording matters. Rules are otherwise summarised in our own words and linked back to the official page, which is always the authoritative version.
Tier 3: Know Your Traffic Signs

What we use it for. Reference for sign categories, shapes, colours, meanings and road markings, and for the distinctions between signs that learners most often confuse.
How we handle it. Sign artwork on this site is drawn by us to the prescribed shapes and colours rather than copied from the publication. Meanings are described in our own words.
Tier 4: UK road traffic legislation
legislation.gov.uk
What we use it for. Consulted where the Highway Code says "MUST" and a lesson needs to state the legal position accurately — licensing, insurance, MOT, vehicle tax, seat belts, speed limits and penalty points.
How we handle it. Legislation is Crown copyright and available under the Open Government Licence. We cite rather than reproduce it.
Tier 5: NHS and recognised first-aid guidance
NHS / recognised first-aid bodies
What we use it for. Source for the incidents and emergencies topic — casualty priorities, CPR, defibrillator awareness, and what to do at the scene of a collision.
How we handle it. Summarised, never reproduced. Medical guidance changes; our pages state that a first-aid course is the proper way to learn these skills.
Tier 6: Driving — The Essential Skills
DVSA
What we use it for. Background for vehicle handling, observation routines, anticipation and driving technique — the "why it matters" sections of lessons.
How we handle it. Used as background reading. Not quoted at length and not reproduced.
Material that would need a licence
Some material connected with the theory test is protected and cannot simply be used on a commercial site. We treat the following as off limits unless and until an appropriate copyright licence is in place:

If you are comparing revision sites
A site advertising “the official DVSA question bank” should be able to say who licensed it. Ours does not claim to be official, because it is not.

Lessons, questions, explanations, diagrams and hazard scenarios on this site are our copyright. You are welcome to use them for your own revision, and instructors are welcome to point learners here. Please do not republish them, scrape the question bank, or present them as your own.
