The accessibility standard this site is built to, the features it provides for learners who need them, and the gaps we know about.

The standard we build to

This site is designed and tested against WCAG 2.2 level AA. In practice that means content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust — whether you are using a screen reader, a keyboard only, magnification, or a phone on a bus.

What that gives you

Getting around

Everything works with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order.
Focus is always visible, with a high-contrast focus ring.
A skip link jumps straight to the main content.
Headings are properly structured, so you can navigate by heading.
Touch targets are at least 44 × 44 pixels.

Reading

Body text is large by default and scales with your browser or system text size.
Line length is capped at roughly 65–75 characters.
The site follows your light or dark colour-scheme preference.
Colour is never the only signal: right and wrong answers carry an icon and a written label as well as a colour.
Diagrams have text alternatives; complex diagrams have a longer description.

Tests and quizzes

Each question announces its number and how many remain.
Answer choices are grouped semantically, and your selection is preserved if you move back and forth.
Results and feedback are announced to screen readers when they appear.
The page does not move or scroll unexpectedly when you answer.
Timed mock tests warn you before time runs out — and timer warnings can be switched off during practice.
Every mock test has an untimed version with the same questions.

Motion and media

Nothing plays audio automatically.
Animation respects your “reduce motion” setting.
Hazard exercises can be paused and replayed, and each has a written description and transcript.
No essential interaction depends on dragging.

Extra time and support in the real test

DVSA offers arrangements including extra time, an English voiceover, a reader or recorder, and a British Sign Language interpreter for candidates who need them. You need to request support when you book. See support during your theory test for what to ask for, and always confirm current arrangements with the official service.

Known gaps

We would rather list these than claim we have none.

Hazard-perception timing exercises are inherently time-sensitive. We provide an untimed “explain the clip” mode alongside them, but the timing exercise itself cannot be made time-independent without changing what it teaches.
Welsh-language content is not yet available. The real test offers Welsh; this site does not yet.
Third-party advertising is not fully under our control. Ads are kept out of tests and away from answer controls, but we cannot guarantee the accessibility of an individual ad creative.
